Bermuda National Museum
The National Museum of Bermuda (formerly the Bermuda Maritime Museum) is located in the Royal Naval Dockyard. It explores the maritime and island history of Bermuda. It is located within the fortress Keep of the Dockyard. The grounds cover 10 acres.
Buildings of the Keep were constructed using the local limestone quarried on site. The dockyard closed in the late 1950s and buildings started to fall into disrepair. In 1974 the Bermuda Maritime Museum took over the site of the Keep and restoration began.
One of the exhibition halls is the former 1850 Ordnance Building that stored kegs of gunpowder and has a high arches ceiling. The Commissioner's House is at the center of the Keep.
Among the displays are bastions, ramparts and casemates, as well as numerous guns.
The museum depicts Bermuda's maritime and national history.
